100 Work Challenge Week 29

After all the excitement of the Night Keeper Zoo’s visit, we are going to calm things down a bit!  Please visit 100wc.net to read the showcase entries - they are awesome! You can even leave the author a comment.

Here are five words that you must include in your 100 words this week. They are:

… Marvellous  Castle  Flew  Noisily  Pink …

So that means you have 105 words to use in a creative piece of writing. Try to highlight the words so that your readers can see them easily.

Remember to email your entry to the blog, including your name in the title and tags (see how to post page for instructions)

Homework 4th May 2012

1. Maths - fractions on mymaths

2. Olympics research. You have started to research your chosen Olympic country and put some of that information into Prezi, ready to share with the class, and, if your group does a great job, in a school assembly.

We're impressed with your Prezi skills. However, lots of the information you have found needs further explaining. For example, if you mention famous people from your country, you need to find out why they're famous. If you mention GDP or other unfamiliar terms, you need to find out what they mean and explain them in a way that shows you understand - otherwise your audience won't understand either! If you mention something really interesting, for example, Brazil has over 500 species of birds, you need to give some examples and attempt to explain why. Finally, find out one or two things that make your country unusual or special (could be about its geography, its people, its climate, its history, even its food or music). Record everything neatly on paper, to add to your Prezis next week. Remember to check your information is from a reliable source.

3. Reading - make sure you record regular reading in your reading record book, including the book title, page numbers and date.

4. (Optional). 100 word challenge - see 5J blog for prompt or go direct to 100wc.net. Try to send your entry to your blog by email as this makes it much quicker. Entries must be in by Tuesday morning to enter the challenge.

5. Get ready for our Victorians day on Thursday - make sure you research costumes and get these and your props ready.  You will also need to research how to behave and ensure you know what to film.

Make sure you find some time to have fun this bank holiday weekend too, let's hope the weather improves!

Homework 29th March 2012

Hello 5L

Your homework for the Easter Holidays is as follows:

1) Correct, edit, improve, complete and type up your Dr Who scripts.  Remember...

  • Your plot should start with a 'bang' and be surprising.
  • In your first minute you should introduce the problem/Dr's mission, the second minute should show the obstacles in his way and what he does to overcome them.  The third minute should resolve the problem or leave us on a cliff hanger.
  • You need to have an Olympic theme and this should be crucial to the story.
  • It needs to be exciting and clever.
  • You need to set it out like a movie/TV script. Look at the website link to give you an example.
  • Include detailed descriptions so the director knows exacty what the scene looks like, whether it is night/day/light/dark/busy/deserted, what the characters look like/wear, what their personality/feelings are like and what they do (their actions - facial and body language).
  • It should last for three minutes, contain that eleventh Doctor, Amy/Rory, a monster and can contain your own character.
  • Type in word using the Courier font, size 11.  Use the centre button for dialogue and the left align button for directions.

2) Complete the 100 word challenge

3) Complete the time sheet.

4) Reading - at least 6 times over Easter

5) Times tables and keep practising everything we have done this year: - written addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Multipliying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Mental addition, subtraction and multiplication.

Have a lovely Easter and make sure you have fun.

Mrs Smith
